We have another high schooler in the house! This t We have another high schooler in the house! This tall, graceful, confident redhead graduated from middle school and is moving on up. Yep, public school can be overwhelming. It is…a lot. But Sydney was blessed with some wonderful, caring, committed teachers who became some of her safest adults (not pictured, because that place was a madhouse last night) and a bunch of cool, kind friends who will be there waiting for her in the hallways next year as they all walk in as freshman.

I’m so proud of Syd and how she has grown and thrived through the last couple of years, despite the challenges. I can’t wait to see what God is going to continue to do in and through her!
April/May recap. We’re wrapping what Trent and April/May recap.

We’re wrapping what Trent and I both agree has been the busiest season ever of adulting/parenting. But after seeing our kids’ mental health suffer during the pandemic, it is a joy to watch them thrive doing the things they love. Makes every game, every practice, every concert, every ride, every load of laundry, every “I forgot my ________!” worth it. I also want to be better at documenting the daily stuff that makes up our life!

*The cutest carpool boys ever, and my total joy to hear their conversation after school each day.
*Carson’s sophomore lacrosse season. Kinda dominated our lives, but we loved every minute cheering these guys on—JV and varsity, rain, sleet and snow—and are loving our LAX community.
*Not loving the injuries. Not pictured: urgent care X-Ray (separate incident) to make sure an arm wasn’t broken. It wasn’t. Just badly bruised. 🥴
*YOUR MOM also got to be the varsity lacrosse announcer. It’s all fun and games until your kid scores and you are supposed to maintain a neutral tone of voice. But can’t beat the view from the press box!
*Little bro played lacrosse too! He’s better than he knows, if less competitive than the rest of our fam. He’s strong and fast and we love watching him play!
*Syd played rec volleyball (while also running track) so she could be with her buds from school. They had a blast!
*BIG concert of the year for Sydney. The theme was “decades” and she ended up singing with 3 different choirs!
*We were pretty proud of this “2000’s” costume for Sydney. Her inspiration was early aughts Disney star. 👌🏼 Thanks Miley and Hillary!
*Staff retreat for Jen.
*Asher is finding his groove in serving and rocks it on cameras about once a month. We are so proud of his commitment and miraculous ability to stay focused!
TEN YEARS! June 3, 2012, is a day I will never for TEN YEARS! June 3, 2012, is a day I will never forget as long as I live. We were given that date in February 2012, as the day we would meet our son in Bangkok, Thailand. The countdown was brutal! Many of you counted down with us!

The excitement and nerves, joy and grief, blessing and pain of that day…it all comes crashing back to me in a heartbeat. Bar none the most emotional week of my life, and surely his. Thank God for delicious Thai food, the first step to winning his heart. 🍜

Asher Saran, we are so grateful God allowed you to complete our family! You are an amazing son, and we can’t imagine our lives without you. ❤️ We honor and remember your birth mom and the painful decision she made to choose an adoption plan. We are so grateful for your foster mom who took amazing care of you for 22 months, and we celebrate your life and your place in our family!

If you would like to send a note TO Asher on the 10th anniversary of his Family Day, we would love to pass them on to him and remind him how many people love him! You can comment below or DM me and I’ll make sure he sees them.

(Gentle reminder: we avoid the narrative that Asher is “lucky” or that this adoption was “God’s plan.” We believe Asher and his birth family experienced incredible loss, and adoption is a way God allows a redemptive response after that deep loss. We are the lucky ones to have him in our family!)
